I want to start with something personal.

A while back, I published a post online and honestly… it did really well.

By most people’s standards, it was a “successful” post.

I had over ninety reactions.
More than thirty comments.
Over seventeen DMs.

And zero clients.

Not one.

I remember sitting there thinking:

“How does this even happen?”

How do you get that much engagement and still walk away with no sales?

At first, I thought the issue was visibility. Then I thought maybe the problem was my content.

But neither of those were actually the issue.

The real problem was what was happening inside the conversations.

I was being warm.
Helpful.
Likeable.
Easy to talk to.

But I was not being a guide.

Nobody walked away from those conversations thinking:
“I need to work with her.”

They walked away thinking:
“She seems lovely.”

And lovely does not build a business.

This was one of the biggest lessons I learned as a business growth coach and online business coach.

Because conversations are one of the most overlooked parts of building trust online.

Everyone is focused on:

  • more followers

  • more reach

  • more likes

  • more comments

  • more visibility

And yes, those things matter.

But they are only the visible part of the iceberg.

The real business is built underneath.

And honestly, that is where most businesses are leaking clients without realizing it.

This entire conversation really comes back to something I keep teaching over and over again:

The goal is not more leads.

Because when trust already exists, leads happen much more naturally.

Your conversations become easier.

And this is especially important for service businesses, consultants, coaches, and experts because people are not just buying a product.

These people already know more about you than you realize.

If someone has repeatedly seen your thinking, your content, your perspective, then familiarity has already started building trust.

Do not assume silence means lack of interest.

Sometimes people are deeply interested… they just have not been invited into a meaningful conversation yet.

This is why relationship-based businesses grow differently.

As a business consultant and business strategy coach, I see this constantly. Businesses are so focused on finding new audiences that they completely ignore the trust sitting quietly inside their existing one.

But trust compounds through repeated exposure.

And conversations deepen that trust.

The Iceberg Effect Most Businesses Never See

Let’s talk about the iceberg for a second because this analogy explains online business beautifully.

The visible part above the water is:

  • reactions

  • reach

That is what everyone sees.

This was exactly my mistake during those seventeen DMs.

I was having lovely conversations.

But I was not helping people see their problem more clearly.

I was not guiding them toward deeper awareness.

I was not asking questions that created clarity.

And because of that, nobody felt urgency to move forward.

Being liked is not the same as being trusted as the solution.

Most people respond by giving tips.

But a stronger guide asks:
“What kind of trust are your conversations actually creating?”

That changes the direction of the conversation completely.

Because now the person is thinking differently.

Now they are seeing the deeper issue.

And this is where authority gets built.

Not through sounding clever.

But through helping people see clearly.

Why Conversations Build Trust Faster Than Content Alone

Content creates awareness.

Conversations create trust.

This is why conversations are such an important part of a self-sustaining lead generation system.

Think about a physical business for a moment.
